My standard answer here is yes. I can’t think of any crime, no matter how seemingly small, that someone wouldn’t want to at least consult with an attorney or talk to potentially the public defender about representing them in a case. The collateral consequences of a criminal conviction are so significant that it just doesn’t make sense to not hire an attorney or not speak to one before heading to trial. A criminal conviction can stay with you for life, it can prevent you from getting a job that you want to get, from living in a place that you want to live, going to school in the place that you want to go to school, or entering your chosen career field.
